What is Hearts?
Hearts is the classic trick-taking game for four where you want as few points as you can manage: every heart you win costs a point and the Queen of Spades costs thirteen. Before each hand you pass three cards you don't want, and then you spend the hand dodging both. Unless, of course, you smell a chance to shoot the moon. Play Hearts online free against smart bots or with friends in a private room. No sign-up, nothing to download.
How to play in a minute
- Everyone gets 13 cards and passes three of them: left, then right, then across, then a hand with no pass.
- Whoever holds the 2 of Clubs leads the first trick. Follow suit if you can.
- The highest card of the led suit takes the trick, along with any hearts or the Queen of Spades hiding in it.
- Hearts can't be led until one has been discarded on another trick, which is called breaking hearts.
- When someone reaches 100 points the game ends, and the lowest score wins.
